Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

TF-CBT

My therapy place has nationally rostered clinicians in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) through the North Carolina Child Treatment Program (NC CTP). TF-CBT is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents who have been impacted by trauma. It uses a components-based treatment model that incorporates trauma-sensitive interventions using cognitive behavioral therapy, family, and humanistic principles and techniques. TF-CBT has proved success with children and adolescents (ages 3 to 18) who have significant emotional distress (e.g. symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, fear, anxiety, or depression) related to traumatic life events. TF-CBT can be used with children and adolescents who have experienced a single trauma or multiple traumas. It is most successful when there is active participation from their parents and caregivers.

Trauma types May include but not limited to:

  • Sexual Abuse

  • Death of a Loved One

  • Domestic Violence

  • Emotional Abuse

  • Neglect

  • Physical Abuse

  • Exposure to Substance Abuse

  • Community Violence
